Corneal Diseases
The cornea, is the outermost layer of the eye. It protects against the entry of germs and contributes to about two-thirds of the total refractive power of the eye.
The cornea is composed of five different layers in total. Any disruption to a layer can result in impaired vision. Depending on which layer is affected, the patient may experience pain, distorted images, blurred vision, or light sensitivity.
In treatment, efforts are made to address the affected layer. Besides medicinal therapies, surgical interventions or various laser treatments may be employed depending on the condition.
In extreme cases, a corneal transplant may be necessary. We have been offering corneal transplants at the Vista Eye Clinic Pfäffikon for many years and are experienced in this procedure.
